Radical Surrealism (1970s)

ca. Late 1960s - Early 1980s

Emerged in the very late 1960s and peaked in the 1970s, when the Pop Art movement was influencing graphic, product, furniture, and interior design. The main proponents of this style came out of the Italian radical design movement; groups like Studio Alchimia and Memphis-Milano to breakout in the 1980s. 'Think Big', a chain selling oversized 'Pop' object versions of everyday household items, also emerged from this zeitgeist.
