Festival Marketplace (1980s)

ca. Early 1980s - Early 1990s

A postmodern melange of 1800s-1900s American shopping vernacular, updated in a simplfied, colorful, celebratory form, popularly used in namesake 'Festival Marketplace'-style shopping centers. Serif fonts, dots or other simple shapes between letters, picnic checkerboards, balloons, banners, flags, confetti, diamonds, festival carts, circular logos, remixes of various older American advertising vernacular, sometimes a more fun freeform scribbly or script font to spice things up, simple colorful graphics, sometimes in silhouette. Sibley/Peteet, Steinhilber Deutsch & Gard, Michael Vanderbyl.
